NIER to hold ‘WaterEco 2013’

National Institute of Environmental Research (NIER) under the Ministry of Environment (MOE) holds ‘WaterEco 2013’ at Elysian Resort, Gangchon from July 17 to 19. The event is designed to reinvigorate study on water ecosystem in a comprehensive manner beyond the existing river management focused on water quality.

On the first day, the ‘International Symposium on Water Ecosystem Prediction Modeling’ consisting of presentations in six sessions and round table will be held, inviting the experts on water ecosystem from home and abroad.

On the following day, the ‘Workshop on Water Ecosystem Health Quality Control’ is prepared to enhance the analysis capability of domestic researchers.  The experts from different fields such as attached algae, fish, benthic macro-invertebrate and waterfront environment will gather together to discuss ways to improve analysis capability.

Also, 30 students from ‘Blue Sky Keepers’ of Soongmoon middle school, Seoul are invited to give a presentation and have Q&A session with the experts.

On the 19th, the experts will have an on-ground discussion at nearby river while the students will go on a field trip. In addition, a thesis presentation will be held for undergraduate/graduate students majoring in water ecosystem.

NIER said that the event will facilitate water environment management policies focused on ecosystem in line with a vision to make eco-friendly river environment. It added that it will make best efforts to upgrade the quality of environmental services to the level of advanced countries based on a healthy water environment.
