Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival designated one of the top ten festivals in Gyeonggi-do

Ten festivals, including the Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival, were designated the ten leading festivals representing Gyeonggi-do. The province held a local festival review committee at the Gyeonggi Small and Medium Business Center on the 22nd, and selected ten leading festivals for the year 2014.

The ten festivals included the Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival, Icheon Rice Cultural Festival, Gapyeong Jarasum International Jazz Festival, Yeoju Ogok Naru Festival, Paju Buksori Festival, Ansan Street Arts Festival, Anseong Namsadang Baudeogi Festival, Yeoncheon Jeongok-ri Paleolithic Festival, Yangpyeong Yongmunsan Wild Greens Festival, and Gwacheon Festival. Among them, the Yeoju Ogok Naru Festival and Anseong Namsadang Baudeogi Festival were newly listed this year.

The committee ensured the objectivity and transparency of evaluations on the 26 festivals in 24 cities and counties within the province by improving the evaluation system, including the introduction of a preliminary field evaluation. It also assessed the festivals based on their characteristics and content, operating systems, potential for future growth, and output.

Among the designated top ten festivals, the province plans to recommend eight festivals for the cultural and tourism festivals to be selected by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. The ministry will select the 2014 cultural and tourism festivals from the local festivals nationwide at the end of this year. The cultural and tourism festivals selected by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism are entitled to national and provincial support of up to 0.9 billion won.
