Jeju retains UNESCO biosphere reserve status

Jeju Island has retained its UNESCO biosphere reserve status, according the International Steering Committee of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. 

In particular, Jeju will maintain three international titles as a World Natural Heritage site, a UNESCO World Geopark, and as a UNESCO biosphere reserve. 



The steering committee concluded that Jeju Island is fulfilling the requirements of the International Biosphere Reserve Network. 

Jeju Province has been devoting resources and energy in maintaining these titles. It is planning to enable eco-tourism initiatives using its renewed UNESCO biosphere reserve status as momentum.
