13 Additional Property Assets by the Former Military Ruler Chun’s Raided

A team of prosecutors and investigators seized more than 200 works of art from the headquarters of publishing company Sigongsa run by former military ruler Chun Doo-hwan’s oldest son Jae-gook.

The Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office has raided 13 places related to the former president since Tuesday including Chun’s home and houses of his relatives in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province.

Investigators suspect that some of the paintings including works of modern painter Park Soo-geun and contemporary artist Chun Kyung-ja were bought with secret funds of Chun who ruled as a dictator of Korea from 1980 to 1987 after a military coup in December 1979.

Chun was held responsible for a large scale atrocities committed against democratic opponents in Gwangju during the 1980 May 18th Democratic Uprising.
