Various artistic amenities and tourist facilities themed after Asian Culture and Art will be constructed across Gwangju from 2016.
The Sangmu Incineration Plant, previously scheduled to be closed, will be redesigned for use as a multiplex facility for culture and art as construction of the Asia Modern Art Museum is to be carried out there next year.
In addition, construction of an Asia Multi-culture Street in Gwangju will begin sometime next year to transform major downtown streets in Gwangju into foreigner-friendly tour venues that feature various restaurants, cafés and spaces for the music industry.
Also, a ‘Character City’ project, which is aimed at building 7 character houses that will showcase various characteristic figures from famous cartoons and animations popular among children will also be carried out starting next year.
