Speaker Kang Chang-hee received Mr. Thomas Enders, the chief executive officer of the the European Aeronautic Defense and Space Company (EADS) Group and had talks over cooperative measures in the defense industry. Mr. Enders and his team are visiting the Republic of Korea to attend the official rollout ceremony of the Korea’s first indigenously developed military helicopter, the Surion.
Speaker Kang said, “I thank Mr. Enders and the EADS for playing a critical role in developing and deploying our first utility helicopter. Starting with this successful development of the Surion, I hope, the EADS will continue to help our aerospace and defense industry, a field of great potential.”
“I take great pride in our work in carrying out the Surion project,” Mr. Enders replied.
The meeting was also attended by Rep. Hwang Jin Ha (SP), Vice Chairmen of the Trade, Industry and Energy Committee Oh Young-sik (DP) and Yeo Sang Kyoo (SP), Chief of Staff to Speaker Kim Yeon-gwang, and Spokesman Bae Seong-rye of the National Assembly. Accompanying Mr. Enders were Mr. Pierre Jaffre, the president of the Asia and European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company N.V., and Mr. Jean Luc Valerio, the president of EADS Korea.
