Foreign Ministry to Hold the 2013 FEALAC Cyber Secretariat Youth Forum

The Foreign Ministry, together with Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, will host the 2013 Forum for East Asia-Latin America Cooperation (FEALAC) Cyber Secretariat Youth Forum for college students of FEALAC member countries at  the Hankuk University, Seoul, on December 4 and 5.

° FEALAC is the only multilateral inter-governmental consultative body between East Asia and Latin America launched in 1999 and composed of 36 member states – 16 East Asian and 20 Latin American.

The upcoming event themed “the role of FEALAC and its future generations in promoting East Asia-Latin America exchanges” will bring together 20 undergraduate and graduate students from 16 out of the 36 FEALAC member countries. On December 4, the students will take part in video production, during which they will hold in-depth discussions on global issues, including environment, human rights, poverty eradication and international peace. At the main Youth Forum event on December 5, they will deliver presentations and exchange views on ways to promote cooperation and boost exchanges between East Asia and Latin America.

The ROK has been actively contributing to the development of FEALAC by: serving as a Regional Coordinator of East Asia and a co-chair of one of its Working Groups; proposing the establishment of the Vision Group; and hosting and operating the Cyber Secretariat. The ROK expects the forthcoming Youth Forum to serve as an opportunity for the youth from the rapidly growing East Asia and Latin America to contemplate the current state and the future of the cooperation between the two regions and enhance their mutual understanding.
