Minister Ryoo visits Busan to meet with separated families and North Korean refugees

On December 18, Minister Ryoo Kihl-jae visited Busan to deliver the words of encouragement and comfort to the separated family members and North Korean refugees.

He met with Mrs. Lee Hak-hee who left her family in Pyongyang at the outbreak of the Korean War and has lived in South Korea with the pain of division and homesickness. Minister Ryoo held her hands and wished her good health until the day of unification so she can reunite with her family.

Minister Ryoo then went to the Jang Dae-hyun School located in Gangseo-gu, Busan. Jang Dae-hyun School is the first alternative school established for North Korean refugee students living in the Busan area. He toured around the school and encouraged the school staff for their efforts to help and educate North Korean refugees and had a time to talk with the students. He asked them to grow into healthy citizens of South Korean society and live their life to the full so they can achieve their dreams.

Minister Ryoo also attended an event held by the Palgakhui and thanked the Palgakghui members who have been donating 60 million won worth of scholarships to North Korean refugees and holding various events to raise the awareness of unification issues among the Busan citizens.
