MOFA Spokesperson’s Statement on the Announced US-Cuba Decision to Restore their Relations

The Government of the Republic of Korea welcomes the US-Cuba decision to normalize their relations. 

The Korean Government hopes that, with the historic determination made by the leaders of the two countries, efforts will move forward smoothly to bring an end to more than 50 years of their confrontation and severed relations and thereby to usher in a new era of cooperation between the two countries. The ROK government renders its support in this regard. 

The Korean Government hopes that the decision will help accelerate the improvement of the relations between Cuba and the international community, and, in the same vein, that North Korea will join the tide of change of the international community by making a right choice.
