MND conducts the 2013 capacity enhancing education session for national  Defense disaster related officials The Ministry of National Defense (MND) conducted the 2013 capacity enhancing education session for national defense disaster related officials in the large auditorium on 9 and 10 April and educated the attendees on ways to strengthen the military's capacity to manage disasters.

During this education session, in-depth lectures were provided on diverse topics including the relationship between the national disaster management system and the defense disaster management system, real military disaster response cases, and preparations for the 2013 Safe Korea Exercise, which is a disaster response training exercise, scheduled for next month.

In particular, the MND focused its efforts on instilling the awareness that protecting the lives and property of the people during disasters is an important mission and the calling of the military. Also, the overall quality of the education session was enhanced by inviting outside instructors to provide lectures, having subject matter experts participate in the relevant classes, and presenting outstanding cases of the Army, Navy, and the Air Force. In addition, by securing sufficient time, classrooms, and instructors, MND was able to attract more than 780 participants, which was the largest participation so far.

An MND official stated, "Through this year's education session, we will prevent the military's non-combat losses even during national level disasters, and establish a readiness posture capable of rapid damage restoration and civilian support."
