On June 19, Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se hosted a luncheon for about 400 overseas Korean community leaders from 76 countries, who are attending the “2013 World Korean Community Leaders Convention.” Minister Yun expressed gratitude and encouragement to the Korean community leaders for their hard work to enhance the rights and interests of overseas Koreans.
Since it was first held in 2000, the World Korean Community Leaders Convention has grown into a representative event for overseas Koreans, facilitating exchanges between Korean communities around the world and strengthening their bond with the home country.
In his luncheon address, Minister Yun explained the Park Geun-hye government’s overseas Korean policy, which aims to provide tailored service to meet the real needs of overseas Koreans under the policy of the happiness of the people, and the government’s future plans to do so. The Minister requested that overseas Korean community leaders, who are very well aware of the situations in their host countries, build an effective cooperation system with the ROK’s overseas diplomatic missions and make a contribution to implementing the government’s policy.
As President Park emphasized, Minister Yun also said that the Koreans at home and abroad need to join forces to overcome challenges facing us, including the global economic crisis and North Korean threats, and to establish a happy Republic of Korea. The Minister asked overseas Korean community leaders for their cooperation.
