Gwangju Design Biennale to Emphasize ‘Locality’

Amidst increasing awareness to strengthen regional recognition through art and design , Gwangju Design Biennale and its revitalization project for the local industry generates growing interests among design professionals and citizens of Gwangju.

As part of efforts to develop Gwangju as a city with usable and practical designs in various sectors of society, the Gwangju Biennale plans to integrate local industry and design for this year's events.

A joint development project among local design firms and Gwangju’s largest textile company, ‘Jeonam Fiber’ will be carried out until the end of this year’s Design Biennale to create locally-designed and produced fashion.

In addition, a prestigious design institute from Great Britain, the Royal College of Art and Gwangju Design Center will be co-hosting the upcoming 2013 Gwangju Design Biennale. The two institutions are expected to cooperate in industrializing and globalizing Damyang’s unique bamboo plants.

Known for its superb color and taste, Namdo’s cuisine and restaurant interior designs as well as table setting by domestic designers are to be on display for international visitors to the Gwangju Design Biennale.
