FKI said Chairperson & CEO Sung Joo Kim of Sungjoo Group, and President Seung Jun Oh of SELAB, representing small and medium enterprises (SMEs), have been invited to be new members of the ABAC Korea Committee. ABAC is the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Business Advisory Council.
Kim, as the first female member, is expected to play a fresh role in the ABAC activities, FKI added. The Federation hopes she will be providing a substantial input into the ABAC agenda, including the women's forum of the Council, enhancing entrepreneurship, and promoting the youth startup.
FKI and the business community plan to support business women and CEOs of SMEs and intermediate-size businesses, and encourage them to be more actively involved in international programs.
ABAC, as the official voice of business within the APEC process, provides the APEC heads of states with the business perspective on areas of cooperation. The Council is composed of 150 businessmen in 21 member countries of APEC. ABAC Korea Committee members are recommended by FKI, and appointed by the president of Korea. ABAC comprises up to three members of the private sector from each country. Since 2011, Chairman Jin Ryu of Poongsan Corporation has served as the only member of the ABAC Korea Committee.
