FKI briefs Indian gov't officials on Korean economy

FKI offered the middle management of the Indian government a lecture on the Korean economy at Grand Ambassador Seoul on May 20. The event aimed at introducing the corporate roles in Korea in the process of economic development to the Indian government officials, and sharing the success stories of Korean corporate globalization.

In his opening address, FKI Executive Director Chi Seong Eom from the International Affairs Division noted, "While recognizing excellent government policies such as five-year economic development plans have been instrumental in helping Korea's economy to rank as the world's 15th, but I believe it was creative, challenging and unflinching entrepreneurship that has played the most essential role in materializing those ideas."

Stressing the integral role of the Korean enterprises in the course of national economic progress, Dr. Kyoung Hee Lee, Senior Researcher of the Korea Economic Research Institute(KERI), expounded in her lecture, "In the 50s and the 60s, Korean businesses established infrastructure by being part of the post-war rehabilitation projects, and contributed to earning foreign currencies via exporting labor-intensive light industrial goods. Despite two oil shocks in the 70s and the 80s, advancement into construction markets in the Middle East, and drastic investment in heavy and chemical industries have absolutely led to the rapid economic growth."

The lecture was attended by 90 competent future leaders from India's central and local governments who were members of the Indian Administrative Service(IAS), and over 50 managers from Korean companies having presence in India.
