"Showcasing the superb skills of the Black Berets in the UAE"

Formation ceremony of the 6th Akh Unit held at the Army Special Warfare Training Group

The UAE military training cooperation group (Akh Unit) conducted a formation ceremony of the 6th Akh Unit on 4 June at the Army Special Warfare Training Group, and commenced its deployment education for a seamless mission execution.

The 6th Akh Unit, which is being deployed to the UAE as part of the ROK military's cooperation with the UAE military, mainly consists of special force teams (special warfare, HALO, counter-terror) of the Special Warfare Command with around 150 service members including Navy UDT members.

Akh Unit members were selected through a competition process that reached a competition rate of 7.9 to 1, and commenced their deployment preparations so that they can carry out their mission immediately upon deployment based on the slogan 'World's Strongest Special Forces Warrior, Full Mission Success by Becoming One!' The deployment preparations include getting proficient with tactical skills required for conducting missions during deployment such as six weeks of counter-terror training, high altitude low opening (HALO), and improvised explosive device (IED) disposal. 

The Akh Unit members will also receive training on Arabic and the situation in UAE.The Akh Unit members plan to conduct military exchange missions during peacetime such as supporting the training and education of the UAE military's special warfare units and conducting combined training exercises, and conduct missions to protect ROK nationals living in the UAE during contingencies.
