Deputy Minister for Multilateral and Global Affairs Shin Dong-ik of the Foreign Ministry met with Representative Dirk Hebecker for the UNHCR -- the UN Refugee Agency -- Korea on December 18 and delivered 11 million KRW for donation to the Emergency Response Fund (ERF) for Syria. The fund had been raised by the Foreign Ministry at the “MOFA-Diplomatic Corps Charity Concert” held on December 16.
On a side note, during his trip to Jordan, Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se will visit on December 19 the Zaatari refugee camp, where some 80,000 Syrian refugees are staying, to offer consolation to the refugees and deliver humanitarian assistance worth some one million US dollars.
* The UNHCR will use the fund to buy 300 caravans, or container houses.
