Visits to the May 18th National Cemetery Jump

The number of visitors who came by the May 18th National Cemetery to pay their respects has skyrocketed compared to last year, marking 260 thousand visitors this month. 

90 thousand visitors entered the cemetery on May 18th alone indicating significantly higher figures than the same time last year. 

Additionally, the eve of the events on May 17th boasted nearly 4,000 citizens, which was 1,000 more spectators than the previous year before. 

Between 2010 and 2012 participation and visitation of May 18th related venues and events had dropped and some worried over this occurrence.

However, the recent scandals surrounding the May 18thDemocratic 
Movement brought a fierce reaction from the regional May-related groups and Gwangju citizens.
